How is a student placed at PRAXIS?
All students enrolled within the PRAXIS program are served under an Individual Education Program (IEP) or Individual Interagency Intervention Plan (IIIP) written by a team of concerned individuals.
The team consists of:
Parent/guardian.
The student, when appropriate.
Representatives from the referring school district, including a district representative, a regular education teacher, and a special educator.
Representatives from alternative programs. PRAXIS includes the case manager, a group leader, a teacher or a program administrator.
Any other persons knowledgeable about the student, including county social workers, probation officers, therapists, counselors, advocates, guardians and litum.
The first step towards enrollment at PRAXIS is an IEP/IIIP team recommendation for a more restrictive placement. This presumes that all other options within the student's home school have been found inadequate to meet the student's needs. The team meets with a representative from PRAXIS and options for possible supports and adaptations within the district are discussed. Should the team view PRAXIS as a viable option, team members, including the student and parents, are encouraged to visits the facility. An IEP/IIIP meeting is then held, with the PRAXIS EBD teacher in attendance, to make a decision about the most appropriate placement, and agree on a program for the student. Transportation for students is arranged by their home district.
